What is Children’s Liturgy?
Children’s Liturgy allows young children to experience the Liturgy of the Word (the Readings, Gospel, Homily, Creed, and Prayers of the Faithful) in a way that is specially adapted for them.
Who may participate?
Children ages 4 to 6 years old are welcome. Older siblings may accompany their younger brothers or sisters to help them feel comfortable.
How it works
Parents and children begin Mass together in the church for the Procession and Opening Prayers. After the Collect, the celebrant (priest) will invite the Prayer Leader and children forward. The Prayer Leader will lead the children to a classroom in the school, where they will:
- Hear the Readings and Gospel.
- Reflect briefly on the message in a child-friendly way.
- Offer prayers—some inspired by the children themselves.
The children will return to their parents during the Offertory and remain with them for the rest of the Mass.
"Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." (Matthew 19:14)
