| Altar Servers |
Altar servers are trained in the spring of the 5th grade and begin serving the summer before 6th grade. This opportunity is available to both boys and girls. In 6th grade students serve weekday masses and serve Sunday masses beginning in 7th grade. A student can continue to be an altar server throughout high school. Teams of 4 servers each are formed every year and servers are responsible for finding a substitute when they cannot make their scheduled turn. |

| Band |
The band program involved students in grades 4-8. Students in grades 6-8 participate in the Concert Band and perform at the Christmas and Spring Concerts. The Concert Band members also perform in the community for senior centers or special functions. Students in grade 5 participate in the Cadet Band and perform at the Christmas and Spring Concerts. The Beginning Band is made up of students in grade 4 and perform a Winter Concert and at the Spring Concert. The Beginning Band students begin to learn instruments in the fall of the school year. |

| Builders Club |
All students in 7th and 8th grade are invited and encouraged to join Builder's Club. This is a club of community and school service, but also encompasses fundraising and socials. Builder's Club provides a $500 scholarship to an 8th grader entering a Catholic high school. |

| Camp Christopher |
Camp Christopher is a unique adventure for all students in the 6th grade, which usually takes place in the early fall. Camp Christopher is located 45 minutes away in Bath, Ohio . Students are able to experience a two night stay in cabins under the direction of the teachers and parent chaperones. They maintain a structured schedule while at camp and learn many valuable lessons in science, survival, Christianity, team building and life skills. Plus, they have a great time! |

| Chess Club* |
The Chess Club is offered to students in grades 4-8 with all levels of expertise from beginner to advanced. In spring, the members gather in the library once a week for a total of 8 weeks. They receive about 15 minutes of chess instruction followed by playing time. A tournament is held near the end of the session. |

| Classroom of Champions |
Classroom of Champions is an academic competition available to 7th and 8th grade students. St. Edward High School sponsors this event each year. |

| Cooking Club* |
Cooking club gives 6th-8th graders an opportunity to learn the basics of cooking. The club meets monthly in the Saint Raphael kitchen from October through May. Members need to bring their appetites to this club because they get to sample their creations. |

| D.A.R.E. |
D.A.R.E. is a program taught in the 5th grade by a trained Bay Village police officer. The program encourages students and gives them the tools to abstain from drugs, alcohol and violence. |

| Design Club* |
Design club is a unique club for 6th-8th graders that allows the members to express themselves creatively. The students meet after school once a month from October through May in the science lab. They are given the opportunity to design professional looking projects using tools, fabrics, materials and craft items. Past projects include upholstered benches, jewelry and unique jean skirts. |

A program run by parents in which teams are formed to compete on problem-solving techniques. The teams meet monthly and are guided in how to creatively solve unique problems using their imagination under a specific time constraint. DI is open to all grades but teams (based on grade level) typically start around 3 rd grade. |

Dick Blake is an etiquette class offered to 5th and 6th graders. The course includes appropriate social conversation, dance etiquette and a few basic dance steps. The Dick Blake course consists of 3 evening sessions. Each session is one and one-half hours. |

| Drama Club* |
A wonderful club that allows students to share their theatrical talents with all. Students have the opportunity to perform on stage or to share their talents as a member of the crew. The club meets on Sunday evenings beginning in September. The necessary tools to put on a drama production are taught and twice a year (usually in December and May) the club puts on a full-scale production. |

| Geography Bee |
Students in grades 4-8 participate in the Geography Bee during their Social Studies class. As test is given during class time and the results from the test are used to determine who continues on in the Geography Bee. There are local, state and national competitions. |

| Junior Great Books* |
A six-week enrichment reading program that encourages interpretative thinking. This program is held during the students' lunch. |

Stock Market Club is open to 7th and 8th graders during the spring. The program teaches the students the basics of investing in the stock market by designing a stock portfolio using a hypothetical $100,000. The game is offered through John Carroll University for 10 weeks beginning in February. It is an after-school program that meets once a week. Students are required to research their selected stocks over the Internet and work in groups of five or six. |

| Personal Finance |
Personal Finance is a before-school, year-long simulation where students, working in small groups, take their identity from age 18 through 65. Along the way, they get jobs, pay bills, maintain bank accounts, buy a car and house, contribute to charities, and save for retirement. They will also be hit with unforseen circumstances, which will affect their decisions. In the end, the group with the highest net worth wins. It is a fun, interactive approach to personal finance. |

Power of the Pen is a creative writing club that is available to all 7th and 8th grade students. Students come in before school once a week to work with faculty advisors. This club can lead to competing in local, district and state Power of the Pen competitions. |

| Safety Patrol |
Safety Patrol is open to all 6th graders who are able to spend a few extra minutes at the end of the day patrolling the Douglas Driveway. Students leave the classroom at 3:15, so they can be at their station from 3:20 – 3:30 . |

| Science Fair |
Science Fair is a required school project that is assigned to students in grades 6-8. Students in these grades are taught the scientific method in order to develop and display a project. Science Fair is held at the kickoff of Catholic Schools Week (last week of January). All projects are displayed and judged. Many students continue onto higher levels of competition. |

| School Newspaper |
The SRS Scoop is published four times during the school year and distributed to students during lunch periods. This is s great opportunity for children to hone their interviewing and writing skills under the guidance of an experienced teacher. You can pick up a free copy of the SRS Scoop at the entrances to the church when it becomes available. |

| Scouting |
Parent volunteers manage the troops. Many opportunities are available to students interested in both girl scouts and boy scouts. |

Scrapbooking is open to all 7 th and 8 th graders once a month. The students learn how to assemble scrapbooks based on a theme of their choice. The club is moderated by parents and meets after school. |

| Student Council |
Student Council is an elected council available to 7th and 8th graders. Elections of officers and boy and girl homeroom representatives take place in September. The students elect all officers and representatives. The council develops a project or goal that they work toward for the year. They also do fundraising, such as sponsoring pizza lunches for the school. Student Council provides a $500 scholarship to an 8th grader entering a Catholic high school. |

| Study Skills |
This class is a 12 session program designed to develop the skills necessary to be effective and efficient students in today's demanding academic environment. Topics range from organization and time management all the way through test preparation and test taking skills. Sessions are offered before school at various times throughout the school year.
